Description

A single monazite crystal, pseudo tetragonal with a square cross section and rough faces, from Madiaomby pegmatite, Analamanga, Madagascar. Comes in a nice glass vial with cork stopper.

From the collection of Ennio Contarini (1890-1975), an italian collector, probably after his death gone to the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano, one of Italy's most important museums of natural history. Some parts of the museum's depot were sold to a well-known english mineral dealer recently.

Slightly radioactive due to content of U, Th and/or rare earth elements (appr. 2.2 µSv/h within spitting distance).
