Originally from old Dr. Krantz stock, comes with antique K. v. Steinwehr label.
Kurt von Steinwehr was born April 5, 1871 in Konigsberg (modern Kaliningrad, Russia, german until World War II). He was an engineer by profession and also collected minerals and coins, among other things. He began collecting insects in 1889 in East Prussia, and in 1891 relocated to Cologne where he collected specimens throughout the Rhine area. In 1900 he donated his collection of butterflies to the Cologne Natural History Museum, and another collection he donated to the Koenig Museum in Bonn in 1936. His collection of coins and medals was sold at auction in 1934. He died May 13, 1958 in Oerlinghausen, Germany.
