Description

Colorless vitreous microcrystals of the extremely rare mineral of simple chemistry ertixiite (Na2Si4O9)  from the type and only known locality worldwide in China.

After the type description: "In 1979, one the authors collected a white granular mineral in a pegmatite miarolitic cavity of the Altay Pegmatite Mine, northern Xinjiang, China. X-Ray powder study
and electron microprobe analysis confirmed that it was a sodium silicate mineral. The mineral was named after the famous Ertixi River in the area. Ertixiite was discovered in a miarolitic
cavity of a Ta-Nb-Be-bearing pegmatite, in association with topaz, albite (cleavelandite), quartz, muscovite, apatite and garnet. In the miarolitic cavity there exist quartz vugs, and the crystals of ertixiite are present in extremely small amounts between albite and quartz".

Some of the associated minerals from the type description are probably present in this specimen.

Probably analyzed by the former owner of the specimen (the Vandenbroucke Museum) but the analysis is no longer available

Ex Vandenbroucke Museum collection from Waregem, Belgium.
