Description

The specimen is a large rhombic crystals of calcite that has cleaved from an even larger calcite formation. The large crystal has then served as the matrix for further surface mineralization. At the surface there is limonitic staining and some surface crusts of botryoidal goethite. There was a deposit of clear quartz over goethite resulting in deep black shining through. Then there was a secondary deposit of cobaltoan calcite around the quartz, but not on it. The specimen is appealing even though it is not perfect.
