Description

A brown tabular crystal of titanite (variety lederite) from New York, the type locality. According to the publication that describes this variety (Charles Shepard, 1840) it was thought to be a different species of “normal” titanite. This specimen is a floater and in very good condition.

Acquired in Germany in 1948, the specimen is from the museum of Georges Vanacker* (BE), with label, specimen #555. *Vanackerite (from Tsumeb) is named after him.
