Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Keystone Mine, Magnolia, Boulder County, Colorado, United States of America
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)
Size:
4.2 × 2.8 × 1.4 cm
Description

Hexagonal gold metallic weishanite crystals (pictures 1-4 in item description) with acicular magnolite (pictures 5-7) , a mercury tellurium oxide on matrix. Weishanite is a gold-silver amalgam previously known only from two localities. This is the third and these are the by far best crystals I know.

Magnolite occurs as colurless sprays richly distributed on the specimen.

There is also coloradoite in grey metallic crystals present (picture 2).

Another phase which is yet not fully approved is ferrotellurite. I was able to measure something very close, but this needs further analytical investigations with XRD.

Please also have a look at the blog section of e-rocks. You will find a detailed report about weishanite there.

In the analysis section the 1-3 file shows the analytical work on weishanite.

The picture 4 shows the analysis of the magnolite and number 5 the analysis of coloradoite.
