Description

Schmidite is a brandnew mineral from the famous Hagendorf Pegmatite. Schmidite is related to schoonerite and wilhelmgümbelite - an oxidized form of schoonerite with Mn2+ largely replaced by Fe3+.

Formula: [Zn2(Fe3+,Mn2+)2Fe3+(PO4)3(OH)3(H2O)6]· 2H2O

Schmidite shows reddish-brown to copper-red, lathlike crystals with gemmy phosphophyllite crystals on altered zwieselite-quartz  matrix.

Without analytic it is not possible to differ between the minerals of the "schoonerite group".

EDS analysed specimen.
