A bit of a surprise showed up today when going through some Madagascan specimens for auction.
Packed away in thumbnail box labelled "Tourmaline Rubellite - Ambalamatsara" was this super little specimen of scheelite from Baia Sprie - Romania.
These much prized blue scheelite specimens came to prominence at around 2001-2003 and apart from the superb find of realgar a little later were the last landmark minerals to emerge from Baia Sprie before its final decline and closure.
This little specimen is very typical with deep gemmy blue octahedral crystals to 7mm deposited on sphalerite/chalcopyrite with strangely contorted "sinusoidal" calcite.
Nice surprise indeed!
