Playing with lenses

Mineral photography continues to be well written up in many places, and no doubt will get a few mentions here from time to time; we do have one or two expert photographers selling and contributing to our pages.

Personally we have photographing minerals for over 10 years and we have always tried to optimise quality with speed and workflow.

Until recently we used bridge cameras, but since January or so have converted to DSLR.

With our new studio we acquired a Canon 50MM f1:2.5 Lens, this lens is particularly good for medium sized items.

We have also a Canon 100mm f1:2.8 L IS lens, absolutely fantastic for detailed close up, but better still running through focus stacking software.

Another acquisition for our other studio was a Canon 1:1 Lifesize converter. This little adapter was designed to work specifically with the Canon 50MM lens, converting it to 100mm.

I thought it would be fun to show a photo comparison between the two lenses....
