Geology World

When we were at Bakewell Show last month, we bumped into someone we had not met before, Barry Taylor who also lives very close to us.

Barry is a collector at heart, but also runs an attraction called "Geology World" from his home in Chesham, Bucks.

Barry invited us to call in and visit and this week we took him up on his kind invitation.

Barry runs Geology World from his home but has made much use of his space to house cabinets and drawers, plus an exhibition in a purpose built cabin in his garden.

Barry Taylor and Geology World

There is a wide ranging display of minerals, fossils, meteorites and agates, with specimens, photographs, display charts and information boards to help explain some of the earth's story. Geology World operates as a private museum and is open by appointment to anyone. Barry gives tours and talks, and tells me that he is busy with schools, clubs and interest groups of all ages.

We spent a great couple of hours with Barry (and Sharon!) discussing his collecting and in particular his passion for agates, Indian zeolites and fossils, and photography.

Displays and "Touchable" Exhibits

It was a real treat; in such a small space there were so many aspects covered, even a little row of "fakes" to make people aware to avoid these things.

If you are interested to visit (with a small group), viewing is by appointment, contact Barry on 01494 794470 (Daytime please).

Admission is Free.
