The Bryce is Wright

I was recently offered this "Elementary Collection of 100 Minerals Fossils & Shells". The collection was originally supplied by Bryce M Wright, then of 90 Gt Russell Street, London.

The mahogany box with two trays is in fantastic condition with seemingly all the divider trays, labels and original contents still intact. The box came from a house clearance in Oxford in the 1990's and has been in storage ever since.

As a treasure trove of minerals it is somewhat lacking but as a representation of Bryce Wright's heritage, and the history of mineral dealing it is fantastic.

Bryce Wright was in business from 1842 to 1874, operating 4 from addresses in his time.

This collection can be dated by the address and medals to being after 1867. I believe it is the £1 10s set.

Like James Tennant he offered these sets of minerals as well as single minerals etc for the collectors of the time. He had a pretty large international market too.

Footnote: Subsequent to writing this the owner offered the collection on eBay and it sold for in excess of £1400.
