Diaphorite

Rare Mineral

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Příbram District, Central Bohemian Region, Czech Republic
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Thumbnail (1-3cm)
Size:
1.8 × 1.1 × 1 cm
Description

Although the specimen is small the crystals are in remarkable dimension - one is 5,1 the second 4,6mm across!  Diaphorite is a rare lead-silver-antimony sulfosalt, which was only found in 12 countries world-wide. The most relevant ones - next to Pribram - came from Canada and Mexico, but the Canadian ones are smaller and the Mexican are not at this quality and most times more dull. So overall I would say, that these specimen from Pribram are among th best world-wide.

The two main crystals on this specimen are exposed, sharp terminated, highly lustrous and undamaged.

Littel side-note to the locality: this is really a historic mine, it was the first in teh world which reached a depth of 1km - already in 1875!
