Description

A kyanite in quartz specimen from Finistère, Brittany, France. This is a very special historic specimen from Michel Adanson collection - true 18th century! All specimens were mounted on wooden bases measuring 5 x 3.5 x 2.5 cm with the help of a thick wire or nails. The label means:
"Trisilicate d'alumine et bisilicate de magnesia ?kyanite? Finistère".

Michel Adanson (born in April 7, 1727 in Aix-en-Provence; deceased in August 3, 1806 in Paris) was a French botanist, ethnologist and naturalist. Adanson studied at the University of Paris under René Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur and Bernard de Jussieu. In 1748, he undertook a research trip to the Canary Islands and the French colonies in Senegal, where he devoted himself to exploring the nature and peoples of Senegambia until 1753.
Adanson published his observations in the Histoire naturelle du Sénégal (Paris 1757; German by Martini, Brandenburg 1773, and by Schreber, Leipzig 1773).
Adanson died in poor circumstances and found his final resting place in the Père Lachaise cemetery (Division 23).

A few of these extraordinary specimens appeared on the market and little of them were exhibited on the St. Marie show in 2019. This is my last one for sale.

Weight includes wooden stand.
